OT: Traveling to Memphis

My wife and I are traveling to Memphis and the Smokey Mountains for our annual vacation in June. We've just about lined up hotels/motels for every place other than Memphis. Can anyone give me any suggestions of a decent place to stay without having to fork over $150 a night (I know, I'm a cheap S.O.B.).

Also, if anyone has any places to eat in Memphis, Nashville, Smokey Mountain, and Great South Fork areas, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

I live in Memphis
I would suggest the Peabody or the Westin downtown I am not sure of the room rates may be out of your range.  You could also look at Residence Inn my Marriot downtown it is a cool apartment style hotel, in an old 1920s building.  Your best bet is downtown that is where are all the action is.  Let me know if you want me to find you some other info.  Wish we could get the redraiders to come play in Memphis!!!

I am happy to help you out however I can, let me know

Another options
SpringHill Marriot downtown, the Madison downtown not sure of the prices  There is a doubletree downtown and they were remodling it at one point I havent been inside since then so I am not sure what it is like, be carefull though it is right next to the bus station and their can be some characters out there!!!!

You can also stay at the Hampton Inn, but it is right on Beale and I am not sure how much peace and quite you would get!

So what we decided to do
is stay in West Memphis, about 6 miles from Beale St. I appreciate all of your suggestions, but after conferring with the wife, the difference b/t a Hampton Inn in Memphis and in West Memphis was about $100 a night and we're only staying 1 night. Basically, we're driving from Dallas to Memphis on a Friday, and then moving on to Nashville on Saturday morning. We really needed a place to lay our heads. Any suggestions on restaurants on Beale St. or in Memphis?

Again, I really appreciate it.

Eat
I have been to a place right off of Beale Street called the Bigfoot Lodge.  I was really awesome.  They have really good food (they are famous for a massive burger that weighs like 4 lbs. or something) and they have awesome desserts (I suggest the skillet cookie).  You should give it a try.
